Maya, 24th July 2024 – Liebe Group recently hosted a highly successful Post-Seeding Field Walk at their main trial site located on McAlpine’s Farm 'Elserae' in Maya. The event attracted over 50 growers and industry representatives, giving them a ‘sneak peek’ into the 2024 trial program.
Despite variable early weather conditions, the main trial site is looking excellent, benefiting from 197mm of rain this year and 143mm during the growing season. Featuring a total of 18 trials and two satellite trials in close proximity, the site serves as a pivotal hub for agricultural research and development in the region.
Trials at the site cover a range of topics including canola establishment, very early sown canola, legumes, herbicide injury, crop varieties and crop nutrition and toxicity.
This year’s field walk introduced a new format, grouping trials into four overarching themes and presenting each in dedicated 30-minute blocks, where attendees engaged in discussions about how the research may fit into their systems. This approach facilitated valuable insights into growers’ priorities, informing future trial planning by the Liebe Group and its R&D Committee.
"We are grateful to all attendees for their enthusiastic participation and insightful contributions throughout the day," remarked Liebe Group Executive Officer, Chris O’Callaghan.
“The day is designed for our local members and farmers to give them an early look at the trials and to help build their understanding of the R&D aims”.
“We like to give farmers multiple opportunities to view the trial program, so when it comes time to read the results report after harvest, they are quite familiar with the trial and what has happened throughout the year”.
The event concluded with an evening of networking, refreshments, and a barbecue, and further discussion around the current research and future trial programs.
Liebe Group extends special thanks to their Diamond Partners – CBH Group, CSBP, Rabobank, and RSM – whose support and presence underscored the event’s importance within the local farming community.
The next opportunity to engage with Liebe Group’s research will be at their “Pinot in the Paddock” event on the 14th of August and then followed by the group’s showcase event, the Spring Field Day on September 5th.
Pinot in the paddock is targeted towards the Liebe Group’s female farmers who would like to learn about the group’s R&D and network with likeminded farmers. The Spring Field Day is the group’s showcase day and main public event for the year.
